MIRDIF CITY CENTRE, DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The Mirdif City Centre is a shopping mall accommodating retail, entertainment and social activities and is a development of Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Shopping Malls LLC. The mall is being developed, targeting to be the largest and most superior, in the Eastern Dubai region, in terms of area, convenience, commercial interaction and customer service. Sustainability comes across as a part of MAF Groups’s core business values and in the same spirit, the Development’s commitment to same is being showcased by its pursue of a LEED Green Building Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The Client has commissioned the services of WSP - Green Technologies Sustainability Consultants in order to facilitate the process leading to this certification. As a result of a Design Review carried out by WSP - Green Technologies, and as an outcome of much interaction between the Project Team and the LEED Consultants, the Project has envisioned the goal of achieving a LEED Silver rating with a possibility of a LEED Gold rating under the LEED for Core and Shell Version 2.0 Rating System. The Project’s Design highlights include a total built up area of approximately 5,250,000sq.ft. comprising the mall, two parking structures and other service areas, in addition to the following sustainability elements;

ƒ Easy access to public transport present in the form of a light rail and comprehensive
    bus service.
ƒ Covered car parking minimizing the Urban Heat Island Effect.
ƒ Elimination of potable water for irrigation.
ƒ Reduction of water consumption over 30% through efficient water use strategies.
ƒ Targeted energy savings of 20% above the ASHRAE 90.1 (2004) Standard through
    highly efficient facade, equipment and sensory controls.
ƒ Diversion of 50% construction waste from landfills.
ƒ Use of materials with high recycled content.
ƒ Use of materials with high regional content.
ƒ Use of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood for more than 95% of the
    Development’s wood requirement.
ƒ Superior indoor environmental quality through;
    •  Construction IAQ Management Plan.
    •  Increased ventilation capacity.
    •  Use of low emitting, non toxic material such as eco friendly paints and
       coatings, adhesives and sealants and carpet systems.
