King Saud BIN Abdul Aziz University for Health Sciences
Al Hasa CAMPUS, KINGDOM OF Saudi Arabia

King Saud bin Abdul Aziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) is the first public university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the entire Middle East region that specializes in the discipline of Health Sciences. It occupies an area of 5 million square meters (5,000,000 m2) in the eastern part of Riyadh with a development area of 1,450,000 sq.ft. which is equivalent to 134,758 sq.m.

The establishment of KSAU-HS was announced by the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on the 25th of April, 2005. King Abdul Aziz Medical City has been the nucleus of KSAU-HS that gradually moved from being a health institution offering state-of-the-art medical services to a distinguished and pioneering academic institution entitled King Abdul Aziz Medical City Academy for Health Sciences - National Guard.

The Design Consultants of the project, Perkins + Will, prepared the Master Plan and designed four medical university campuses for the KSAU development, out of which the Al Hasa Campus is pursuing Superior Energy Conservation Strategies as a part of the projects overall Sustainability mandate. As developing an Energy Model forms an integral part of benchmarking and improving the perceivable energy savings of a project, the Al Hasa Campus has decided to pursue same to enable the successful achievement of Superior Energy Conservation. In this regard Green Technologies has been appointed as the project’s Specialized Energy Modelers.

The Energy Modeling will be carried out through the energy simulation software, eQuest, which includes the study of the impact of the building’s envelope on the energy consumption of the mechanical systems. The efficiency will be aptly selected in order to optimize energy savings on electricity, gas and chilled water consumption. Architectural features such as the roof canopies and shadings are also being considered in estimating the total impact of the building on the energy consumption of the project as a whole.
